Final Destination 2

The sequence reverses itself and Kimberly’s three friends are the first to die (Kimberly should have, but Officer Burke rescues her at the last second). Then Evan dies by having a fire escape ladder go through his eye. Tim Carpenter is next by having a sheet of plate glass crush him. Nora has her head stuck in elevator doors until the pressure finally pops her head off. You think Kat has a close one when a jagged metal pipe is shoved through the headrest of her seat, but she appears to be fine and taking it all well until a fireman using the jaws of life on her door causes her airbag to release, forcing her head back onto the pipe. Rory bites it shortly thereafter by being separated into 3 sections by a flying section of barbwire fencing. Only Eugene, Burke, and Kimberly are left now. All along they have had the aid of Clear Rivers (Ali Larter), the only survivor of the original Final Destination. Somehow a pregnant woman is thought to be the answer to cheating Death. Supposedly she was also spared from the crash and if she can deliver the baby, Death will have no choice but to skip the rest of them. Just after she delivers, Rivers opens the door to Eugene’s hospital room and sets off an explosion that kills both of them. Finally, Kimberly figures out what it meant when the strange man told her, “Only new life can cheat Death.” She intentionally drowns herself near the hospital and is brought back by one of the doctors there, thus saving both her and Officer Burke because her new life has forced Death to skip them.

LONG ENDING:
One year after the events of the first film (which have been widely covered by the media), a teenage girl named Kimberly (A.J. Cook) leaves on a road trip with her friends. As they drive towards the highway, Kimberly has a vision that they will be involved in a deadly (and terrifying) multi-car pile up that starts when giant logs fall off the back of a logging truck. Freaked out, Kimberly blocks the on-ramp and prevents various other drivers from getting onto the highway. As a police officer named Thomas (Michael Landes) (who she also blocked from entering the highway) interrogates her, the crash occurs. Though the group of strangers Kimberly blocked from the highway are spared from their deaths, an out of control truck smashes into her car (she was standing outside her car talking to Thomas) and kills her friends. The survivors (in addition to Kimberly and Thomas) include the uptight Kat (Keegan Connor Tracy), mother Nora (Lynda Boyd) and son Tim (James Kirk), skeptical loner Eugene (T.C. Carson), cocaine addict Rory (Jonathan Cherry), and recent lotto winner Evan (David Paetkau). Their survival causes the spirit of death to begin hunting them down. Death kills Evan later that day in a freak accident.

Kimberly realizes her experience is similar to those of the kids from the first film. She does some research and learns that Clear Rivers (Ali Larter) (who along with her boyfriend Alex survived death in the first film) is voluntarily committed at a nearby asylum. Kimberly visits Clear and asks for help. Clear says that there is no stopping death. Every time someone survived an attempt on their life, death simply skipped them and pursued the next survivor. Eventually, death would circle back and try to kill them again. Clear reveals that though they survived several attempts, Alex was eventually killed (offscreen by a falling brick, in between movies) and that death still wants her. Clear tells Kimberly to visit the mysterious mortician Bludworth (Tony Todd), as he seemed to have more insight on death’s designs. As she leaves, Kimberly chastises Clear for not being more help and for hiding from death in a padded room. Clear considers Kimberly’s words and checks out of the asylum.

Thomas (who in the meantime researched the story of the teens from the first film and now also believes death is after them) links up with Kimberly. They visit Bludworth, who suggests that they might actually be able to escape death’s clutches if they bring a “new life” into the world (thus balancing out the missing deaths they avoided). After reviewing traffic stop footage, they realize that there was actually another driver who was saved that day by Kimberly (but had driven away before Thomas rounded everyone up). It’s a pregnant woman named Isabella (Justina Machado). They believe that if they can ensure death doesn’t kill her baby (aka a “new life”), then they’ll break death’s murderous cycle. Thomas has a fellow officer arrest Isabella (to keep her safe in jail) while he, Kimberly, and the newly arrived Clear round up the other survivors. They are too late, however, to save Tim when he is killed by death.

In an apartment, Kimberly, Thomas and Clear try to convince the other survivors that death is after them. They refuse to believe it until they witness Tim’s mother Nora get surprisingly and brutally killed. They also learn that death will not let them die until it’s their “time” (Eugene tries to commit suicide by shooting himself, but the gun never goes off). And they also learn that each of them was actually supposed to have been killed earlier, but their deaths were prevented due to events set in motion in the first film (i.e., Thomas avoided being shot at a crime scene because he was diverted to investigate the scene where a train hit Carter’s car). With all of them now working together, they vow to keep Isabella and her baby alive. They learn that Isabella went into labor and is being transported to a nearby hospital. They all hop in a car to go after her.

Along the way, their car gets into an accident and both Kat and Rory are killed. Eugene is injured in the crashand taken away in an ambulance. After Thomas manages to get a new car, he, Kimberly, and Clear three go to the hospital where Eugene and Isabella are. They split up to look for the pair, and Kimberly manages to prevent a series of events that jeopardized the birth of Isabella’s baby. With the baby alive and well, the survivors celebrate. However, their victory is premature as a stray spark ignites oxygen in Eugene’s hospital room and the explosion kills both he and Clear.

Kimberly realizes that she never saw Isabella (or her baby) die in her vision of the crash. Since they weren’t meant to die, the baby can’t serve as “new life” that breaks death’s grip. Kimberly comes up with another plan. She tells Thomas and the doctors to stand by, then steals a vehicle and drives it into a nearby lake. She drowns before Thomas is able to free her. But the doctors standing nearby manage to resuscitate Kimberly. Having now died, but been brought back to life, Kimberly herself is now the “new life” that breaks death’s cycle. She and Thomas embrace as the sole survivors. Meanwhile, death kills a teenage boy who Rory had stopped from being run over earlier in the film.

Order of Deaths:

• Various drivers and Kimberly’s friends – They are killed in a multi-car accident caused when a logging truck’s logs break free of their restraints and smash cars throughout the highway.
• Evan – His hand gets caught in the sink as his apartment catches fire. Evan finally manages to free his hand and jumps out a window to the fire escape. In the alleyway below, he slips on some pasta he’d earlier thrown out the window. An explosion then causes the fire escape ladder to fall and impale him in the face.
• Tim – After almost being asphyxiated via laughing gas at a dentist’s office, Tim survives and leaves his appointment unharmed. Some pigeons that Tim upsets outside fly off and startle the operator of construction equipment at a nearby construction site. The operator accidentally hits a lever that causes a plate glass window to be released from a crane. The window crushes Tim.
• Nora – While in an elevator, Nora’s hair gets tangled in the hooks of some artificial limbs being held by another passenger. Having been warned she’d be killed by a man with hooks, she tries to flee when the elevator opens. The hooks prevent her from leaving and the elevator doors close on Nora – with her head inside the elevator doors and her body outside. The elevator then moves up, and Nora is decapitated.
• Kat – During a car crash, Kat narrowly avoids being impaled when a bunch of hard plastic tubing flies into the car. She is, however, trapped in the car by a branch that pins her legs. As firefighters use the “jaws of life” to pry open the car door to free her, it activates the airbag. It deploys and hits Kat in the face, causing the back of her head to be impaled on the tubing that she earlier avoided.
• Rory – While observing Kat’s rescue efforts along with the other survivors, a nearby gasoline leak ignites on the cigarette Kat was smoking when she died. The subsequent explosion causes a barbed wire fence to fly through the air and vivisect Rory. He is cut into thirds.
• Eugene and Clear – Death manipulates various medical instruments in Eugene’s room to disconnect him from the oxygen he needs to survive a collapsed lung. However, at the last moment, an emergency ventilator kicks in and saves Eugene. It turns out that death’s actual goal was to fill the room with pure oxygen. A spark causes the oxygen to ignite, and Eugene and Clear (who just entered the room) are killed in the explosion.
• Farm boy – The boy lived at the farm where the main characters get into a car crash. As emergency crews arrive, he is almost run over by a car. But Rory pushes him out of the car’s way. This means he cheated death and death is now after him. And when he lights a grill to cook dinner, it explodes and kills him.
